According to the site, they have the ability to strip the ads off the videos you put on your lists.  Makes me wonder how YouTube and Vimeo will react once they realize they aren't getting ad-views.  And if there are no ad-views, how the makers will feel about the loss of revenue?

The founder is James Yang.  There's a nice article about him on Social Times: http://socialtimes.com/huzzaz-makes-it-easy-to-create-and-share-video-playlists_b136571

From the article: Huzzaz is a passion project. “I just want to create something that helps make the world a better place.”

Le collezioni video realizzate possono essere facilmente condivise nei principali social network o incorporate.

Molte facile da utilizzare, Huzzaz è un utile strumento per scoprire video e per la video curation

From Robin Good's insight:

"Steve Rosenbaum (the author of Curation Nation) strikes some pretty powerful chords that fully resonate with my vision and expectations about the future of content curation.

On the assumption that "The speed, scale, and number of distinct elements of produced content will double every 24 months." (call it Rosenbaum law) he rightly asserts that, as if there was already enough content, we are going to be literally inundated by tons of it soon..."

Runnable Wants To Become The YouTube Of Code

Runnable Wants To Become The YouTube Of Code | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

Excerpt from review article by TechCrunch:
"For many developers, Googling code snippets is just part of their everyday routines. Those snippets, however, are spread all over the web. The co-founders behind Runnable, saw this in their own work at Amazon and hosting companies and decided to build what they call a “YouTube of Code” – a site that allows users to discover code snippets and edit and run the code right on their sites.

What’s happening then is that, for many developers, coding is slowly becoming more about gluing together existing parts than creating something entirely from scratch. Nobody, however, has made the process of discovering code snippets really easy.

On Runnable, the six-person team has aggregated code snippets in languages ranging from PHP to Node.js, Python, JavaScript, ASP.NET and Ruby on Rail (as well as some of their frameworks) from a range of reputable sources.
The idea is to make publishing code on Runnable as easy as writing a blog post on Medium.

Besides the languages themselves, the team is also focusing on APIs and on how to use products like MySQL, MongoDB, redis and similar frontend and backend services.

One of the coolest features of Runnable, by the way, is that you can edit the code and test it right on the site..."

Pugmarks is a Chrome web extension which allows you to get in-context references and complementary reading suggestions to any web page you are viewing.

Pugmarks leverages your network of Twitter, LinkedIN and an optional set of RSS feeds (which you must provide in OPML format) to filter and select the most relevant reading resources that it will suggest to you.

When you are on any web page you can click the Pugmarks footprint icon on the Chrome browser extension bar and a strip of relevant information is displayed over the top (or bottom) of your screen.

The extension can be paused and the user has the option to select whether to see the Pugmarks bar appear on top or on the bottom of his browser screen.

When you open a new empty tab Pugmarks suggests relevant content items to check out.

You Need Start Thinking Like A Media Company To Guide The Future Of Digital Business

You Need Start Thinking Like A Media Company To Guide The Future Of Digital Business | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

In this article by Lee Odden on Online Marketing Blog, he introduces the next book by Michael Brito, SVP at Edelman, and the author of "Your Brand, The Next Media Company".
The article caught my attention since many points are relevant for my topic and for human content curators.

Here is some excerpts:
"Now more than ever, we need trusted sources of insight and leadership to guide the future of digital business.

Whether you work for a large brand, small business or just a consultant, you need start thinking like a media company. And the answer is right in plain sight:
- There is a content and media surplus in the market place and consumers have an attention deficit.
- Consumer’s lives’ are dynamic and unpredictable, making it impossible for any brand to reach them consistently.
- All consumers are influential, despite their Klout scores and are aiding their peers down the purchase funnel.

"What exactly is a media company?"
They have five characteristics that you should adopt when thinking overall about content marketing or content strategy.

1. Storytelling: Media companies tell stories...
2. Content: Media companies are content machines with an “always on” mentality...
3. Relevance: Media companies provide relevant content all the time to someone, somewhere...
4. Ubiquity: Media companies are everywhere. They dominate the search engine results and their content is shared daily across social media channels...
5. Agility: Media companies move quickly...

Brito also provides technology reviews of content platforms like Newscred, Contently, Compendium, Outbrain and real-time monitoring dashboards like Social Flow and the Dachis Group Real-time Marketing Platform that will help facilitate this transition..."

StartMe is an excellent free start page builder which allows anyone to create public (or private) start pages containing bookmarks, links and RSS feeds, organized in groups and easily editable.

StartMe creates clutter-free, well designed and highly scannable editable start pages where you can easily add, edit, move around and re-order and group your favorite links and bookmarks in any way you want.

You can create as many start pages as you want and you can choose to start either from a pre-populated links and feeds page that can be edited and customized or completely from scratch.

Groups and individual items (links and RSS feeds) can be easily edited and dragged around easily. It is possible to decide how many news stories appear in a feed list and you can even switch on a "river of news" option that will combine chronologically all the news of a list of feeds.

It is also possible to integrate a search engine for each start page that will search using your search engine of choice.

StartMe supports OPML allowing full export and import functions with any bookmark collection or RSS feeds list.

Extension for Firefox and Google Chrome are available.

My comment: I can't recommend this tool enough. Easy, fast, effective and elegant. It's a breeze to use and it's so damn useful for creating start pages for a thousand different uses: tools lists organized in groups, suggested sites to visit subdivided in sub-topics, collections of people profiles in specific sectors, etc.

Twitter 'Embedded on These Websites' Test Curates Links Under Tweets

Twitter 'Embedded on These Websites' Test Curates Links Under Tweets | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on Search Engine Watch:
"With Twitter being a source of news for so many people, a new feature it’s testing that essentially curates the content behind the topic seems like a logical fit. “Embedded on these websites” is the header for the new functionality that is showing links to articles online that have embedded the tweet.

No doubt Twitter will use some sort of filter to feature only the most trusted sources for curated content.
With this, embeddable tweets offer a new way for certain publishers to gain more exposure on a topic.

Embedded tweets allow users to insert interactive tweets within their articles that feature media like photos and video, show real-time retweets and favorites, and give the ability to engage with the tweet right within the article..."

Discover, Collate, Curate And Export Your Favourite Music Heard On The BBC With BBC Playlister

Discover, Collate, Curate And Export Your Favourite Music Heard On The BBC With BBC Playlister | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article on BBC:
"Each year, the BBC showcases more music than any other broadcaster across its radio, TV and online services. However, once broadcast, it can be difficult for audiences to find the music they hear on the BBC again. The first of its kind, BBC Playlister changes that for ever.

With BBC Playlister, music fans can:

1) Collate the tracks they love from across the BBC – via a simple sign-in process, audiences can click to remember the music they hear on the BBC and add these to their personal playlist;

2) Discover recommended tracks from favourite BBC DJs and presenters or popular programmes – helping fans discover more of the music they wouldn’t have otherwise found, and get inside picks from some of the best experts in the world;

3) Easily export their playlist to their chosen digital music service – to replay whenever they want to in the simplest way possible.

The first stage of BBC Playlister will launch in the coming days on PC and via a mobile browser, letting you remember tracks, and export and listen to them on your chosen digital music service. Music lovers will be able to quickly and easily export their playlist from the BBC to either Spotify, YouTube or Deezer and listen back to tracks in full. Over time, the BBC will look to welcome a number of other services to the product.

The BBC will release significant new developments over the coming months, including recommendations from DJs and presenters and the ability to integrate fully with your mobile via the BBC iPlayer Radio app. BBC Playlister will go live across the BBC’s websites in the UK and throughout the world..."

Colin Begin's curator insight, October 8, 2013 12:12 PM

This article is interesting. I see a lot of "pros" in this, it lists all the benefits you have with using this site. You can easily listen to the newest music, easily dowload you're favorite songs to any playlist of you're choice. As well as have it remember you're favorite songs, or most listened to, so you dont have to search for them the next time. It obviously does not list the "cons" of this specific site, but i would think some of the "cons" would be competition. There are so many sites like this coming out with the same features , that the only "cons" really would be keeping up with other competition.

Content Curation Tactics: 10 Embeddable Media Sources

Content Curation Tactics: 10 Embeddable Media Sources | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article by Lee Odden on Online Marketing Blog:
"Creative sourcing of content is important especially when it doubles as a way to improve efficiency and boost relationships with members of your community and industry thought leaders.

A classic form of this type of efficient content sourcing is the Oreo Cookie blog post: Find a compelling, informative article written by someone you’d like to better connect with and pull an excerpt of it into a blog post.
Then write an intro paragraph to identify a problem that empathizes with the reader and a conclusion offering insights into the way forward. Cite and link the source of course.

Embeddable media can include visual rich content and more than just a snippet of text, giving your readers a much richer experience.

Flipboard Emerges As Tool That Handles Content Curation Across Multiple Dimensions

Flipboard Emerges As Tool That Handles Content Curation Across Multiple Dimensions | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article on Social Media Explorer:
"Flipboard had a huge hurdle to overcome: Who cares about sharing in an app that only a handful of people use very often anyway?

The solution came from “unbundling” the simpler tasks that we think of when it comes to “sharing” something:
- Snagging
- Routing
- Context
- Subscription

Ideally, if you’ve thought about a curation strategy at all, you understand that you don’t have to create metric tons of awesome content if you can be the go-to person to find it and share it. Certain topics lend themselves to a lot of information, and your value as the sifter of the wheat from the chaff is not to be overlooked.

So what is Flipboard doing that is so special? It has moved beyond the app, into categorization, collection and personalization.
Here’s what that workflow can look like:
1. Sharing Starts Where You Find Things...
2. More Channels is Better...
3. Sell the Sizzle AND the Steak...
4. Friction-Free Sharing...
5. On the Flip Side...

This could be the ticket for a busy entrepreneur with limited time for writing and “thought leadership,” but who is enough of a topical consumer of links that filtering and sharing can become second-nature.

What Flipboard has done is made the acts of sharing, compiling, and curation as frictionless and as inclusive as ever. And being able to target specific networks in isolation or in bulk is a time-saver..."

Each point is analyzed with more information.

Feedolu is in public BETA from September 5th. It is an RSS feed reader that makes it easily to read, organize and share content.

Excerpt from review article by Shelly Kramer on V3 Blog:
"Feedolu uses advanced feed reading technology and combines that with social features commonly used on sites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Feedolu users will have a public profile with their own URL (feedolu.com/username).
You can customize your background, create a bio and attach a link to a website (like Twitter) and website RSS feed as well.
When a user attaches an RSS feed to their profile, other users can then go and subscribe to that RSS feed, giving that user the opportunity of increased website traffic via subscriptions.

Here are key features:
- User Following;
- SEO;
- Unlimited Feeds and Feed Walls;
- Back-End Processing.

Free to use.

New Context Search Engine For Twitter To Get The Most Relevant Topics, People And Content: Tame

New Context Search Engine For Twitter To Get The Most Relevant Topics, People And Content: Tame | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it

From Official Website:
"Tame analyzes the last 24 hours of your timeline and crunches it down to a top 10 overview of the most relevant hashtags, users and links. Then you can use Tame like a search engine—and get the most relevant topics, people and content.

How does Tame work?
Check out this detailed presentation on Slideshare:
http://www.slideshare.net/Tame_it/tame-product-guideen

Use cases:
- Get a quick overview of your Twitter timeline;
- Keep up with topics you care about;
- Find specific hashtags on certain topics;
- Find opinion leaders and key communicators;
- Keep up with your constituency;
- Take Tame with you..."

From review article on TechCrunch:
"Tame is described as a "context search engine" for Twitter, the mobile and tablet-friendly web app analyses content from your Twitter followers or based on a specific search to algorithmically surface the top hashtags, the Twitter users most mentioned, and the top links shared over the past 24 hours. The idea is to give you an at-a-glance overview of content populated on Twitter via your own Twitter feed or topics that you explicitly wish to delve into, without having to do much upfront work.

In practice, Tame appears to work quite well out the gate. The UI offers a simple three column view consisting of Links, Topics, and People. These are either based on your Twitter timeline — the users you follow — or specific searches that you enter. A slider lets you adjust the time span from 1-24 hours. Clicking on a link, topic or person opens up a panel displaying the originating tweet (or tweets)..."

Excellent post - importance of context & provenance.

digitalassetman's curator insight, August 30, 2013 8:15 AM

Since graduating from library school, I’ve fielded occasional questions about archiving “as a professional in the field.” Then comes the second question, “So, what kind of archive do you work in?” But I don’t. Although I was trained as an archivist and care deeply about archives, I’ve been an editor or a content strategist on most of my recent projects. And though I sympathize with archivists’ anxiety about their continuing relevance, I’m also excited for them, as I am for anyone who has content worth sharing

OnePlaylist.fm is a new web app which allows you to search YouTube videos and the full Spotify catalog for music tracks and video clips and to collect your preferred ones into shareable playists.

You can also import existing playlists straight from YouTube and Spotify. Not only. Once you have created a playlist, you can synch it with your account on YouTube, Spotify, Rdio, Deezer and many other music services.

Newly created playlists can be set to private or public. Public playlists can be shared on social media, embedded on other web sites, and are always published to a dedicated playlist web page that integrates a video player, all the clips in the playlist, related playlists, and a public analytics chart showing views and Facebook shares for that specific playlist.

The service is powered by Spotify.

My comment: Excellent video and music playlist maker. Powerful and speedy search function makes it easy to find any video or track and to arrange it into a publishable playlist. Excellent solution to create/curate valuable, unique and immediately useful content for your audience.

Free to use.

Seems to me this could be used to make some great content for blogs...and the link could be used as Facebook content.

Greg Longmuir's curator insight, July 16, 2013 12:55 PM

I guess you can never have enough curating, in this digital age anything that can keep you up to date and help visibility is worth a try. I like the way the simplify everything. I'm not sure but even with all this info I still may feel like I'm missing something and go to the individual sites anyway. But to see what the landscape looks like in a quick view Qwant is pretty cool.
