Twitter finally stops counting usernames against reply character limits in test

Twitter finally stops counting usernames against reply character limits in test | SocialMedia_me | Scoop.it

#Beyond140 is coming to fruition with the removal of one of the most annoying laws of Twitter. Some iOS users are now part of a test group that no longer sees a recipients’ usernames appear or count against the 140 character limit when they post replies. This leaves more room for actual discussion.

Curate Topic-Specific News Channels on Twitter with Custom Timelines

Curate Topic-Specific News Channels on Twitter with Custom Timelines | SocialMedia_me | Scoop.it

Twitter has just announced the availability of a new feature that will be gradually rolled out to all Twitter users and which allows you to create custom curated Twitter channels on any topic you want.

Via Robin Good
Alessandro Rea's insight:

But you need not wait.

To start using immediately Twitter Timelines what you need to do is to head over to https://tweetdeck.twitter.com/ and to register yourself for the free web app owned by Twitter.

Once you are logged in, all you need to do is to click on the leftmost vertical icon-bar on the + sign, and then to select Create Custom Timelines from the ensuing dialog box.

Once you have created a Custom Timeline all you need to do to populate it is to manually drag tweets from your others news/tweets gathering columns into it.

Once created in Tweetdeck any Custom Timeline is immediately visible inside Twitter at a dedicated URL and can be easily shared or embedded inside any site or blog.

My comments: The Twitter Custom Timelines feature opens up a universe of possibilities for curated news channels, and other highly specialized thematic channels. Finally there is the opportunity not to have to consume stories and news that are completely irrelevant to your interests simply because they come from someone you follow. By following highly specific custom timelines it is now possible to consume only the type of content you are truly interested into from your favorite trusted curators.

Free to use.

Try it out now: https://tweetdeck.twitter.com/ ;

5 Reasons People Favourite Tweets on Twitter

5 Reasons People Favourite Tweets on Twitter | SocialMedia_me | Scoop.it

.

With approximately 500 million users and an average of 400 million tweets sent per day,Twitter is undoubtedly one of the most popular social media platforms.

Increasingly so in recent years, brands have been embracing it for customer service, nurturing relationships with their customers, product feedback, promotion of their products and services, and generally boosting their online reputation.

From a consumer perspective, it seems that many have also grown used to disclosing a lot of personal information on Twitter.

Users retweet or reply to anything that particular resonates with them, that they find intriguing or that arouses interest in one way or another.

That’s why we thought it might be fun to take a look something we think is not as well understood in terms of functionality: the ‘favourite’.

What does it mean and how do people use it?

Tools for Following, Unfollowing and Managing Lists on Twitter

Tools for Following, Unfollowing and Managing Lists on Twitter | SocialMedia_me | Scoop.it

It’s been a while since SocialTimes did a round-up of the various tools that helped users manage their Twitter accounts by finding who to follow, following new people, unfollowing many people at once and organizing groups of users they follow into lists.

Since our last round-up, Twitter has restricted use of its API significantly, causing several tools to shut down. No longer functional areUntweeps, Just Unfollow, Twit Cleaner, Who Follows Whom and Tweet Effect. Tweeter Karma is still functional but has had to remove its bulk unfollow tools.

How To Tweet Photos So You’ll Get The Most Retweets

How To Tweet Photos So You’ll Get The Most Retweets | SocialMedia_me | Scoop.it

HubSpot’s “Social Media Scientist” Dan Zarrella recently collected a dataset of more than 400,000 randomly selected tweets and calculated the number of times each tweet received a native (“new”, as opposed to manual RT) retweet in order to determine the most successful method by which users can tweet photos.

Alessandro Rea's insight:

There are many popular ways to share photos on Twitter, but only one will guarantee you the most retweets.

Zarrella compared four of the most popular ways to send images to Twitter: Facebook image links, Instagram, Twitpic and Twitter’s own, native image uploading service (seen in tweets as pic.

Quelli meno fantasiosi alla fine (oppure all’inizio).
