Transformational leaders have a vision. They are driven to ‘transform’ based on their vision. They can be very successful in situations that require change because they: set direction, set an example, communicate well, alignment goals, bring out the best in people, are change agents and provide decision in a crisis or on the ambiguous (Hooper & Potter, 1997). More importantly they BELIEVE. Their nature, personality, DNA gives them the attributes that allow them to believe in their visions, with no hesitation or doubts.

This paper discusses second language acquisition with reference to periphery countries and the effects of English on culture and language. It includes a brief history of the spread of English as an international language and reasons why many countries are creating English language programs. Globalisation and communication advances since the 1990s are discussed with particular reference to their effects on Japanese society, culture and language.

Our intention in contributing to this book chapter is to bring together some aspects of research and best practice in Oral Communication teaching in both the Arts and the Sciences and in so doing, apply a problem-solving approach to the teaching of successful Oral Communication to Second Language learners. We define successful Oral Communication as the process of giving and uveiving a clear message. This process both weaves and is woven from our acculturated concepts of reality and involves not only all aspects of pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, but also intention, and verbal and non-verbal language.

I'm thrilled! I have a hedgehog in my garden. I'm not sure when she moved in but she came to visit me the other evening as I sat on my terrace. Since then, like clockwork, she has been busy trotting around the garden each evening.

Perhaps we should change our paradigms concerning Corporate Social Responsibility programs and expect corporations to use their efficient systems to deliver progress and improvement in countries of needs rather than have them simply donate to inefficient government programs and bureaucratic NGOs.
