Raspberry Pi Imager is now a must-have for any Raspberry Pi user. It allows us to flash a new system to an SD card in seconds, by simply picking the system from a list. It’s available for Ubuntu, and in this article, I’ll show you how to get the most out of it.

Balena Etcher is still my favorite tool to create new SD cards for Raspberry Pi. It works wonders on Windows, macOS, and Linux. They claim it works on all platforms, so I tried on Raspberry Pi OS. In this article, I will share my experiencece and the solutions I have found.

Balena Etcher is available on all operating systems, but only for x64 architectures. So, there is no way to install it on a Raspberry Pi. Hopefully, other alternatives like Raspberry Pi Imager can be used to do the same thing.

Don’t worry, you can absolutely create a bootable SD card without a regular desktop or laptop – using only a Raspberry Pi 4. I will show you how to do this in this article, but first, let’s see why Etcher doesn’t work.

Uno de los aspectos más delicados de la puesta en marcha de una microcomputadora Raspberry Pi es el proceso de instalación del sistema operativo en una tarjeta SD o microSD (pues este dispositivo carece de disco duro).

Aunque existen varias alternativas de terceros, hace casi un año sus creadores lanzaron una nueva herramienta oficial denominada Raspberry Pi Imager, que facilitaba la tarea de preparar la tarjeta SD y grabar en la misma una imagen de disco del sistema operativo.

El Raspberry Pi se ha convertido en un gadget must-have para muchos usuarios. Gracias a él es posible tener un ordenador completo, con una potencia más que aceptable, por menos de 40 euros. Este micro-ordenador está fabricando usando hardware libre, y, además, está diseñado para funcionar con sistemas Linux. El RPi no tiene memoria interna, por lo que el sistema operativo se le debe instalar a través de una micro-SD que debemos configurar en el ordenador. Y aunque esto puede ser lo más complicado de usarlo, gracias a Raspberry Pi Imager podemos olvidarnos de ello.

Recientemente, los responsables de Raspberry Pi han lanzado una nueva herramienta llamada Raspberry Pi Imager que ayuda a preparar la tarjeta microSD e instalarle un sistema operativo.

Raspberry Pi ha presentado Raspberry Pi Imager, una herramienta oficial que facilita la instalación de imagenes para usarlas en sus placas simples.

¿Qué es Raspberry Pi Imager? En un principio, si miramos el menú de aplicaciones una vez instalada la herramienta, se llama sólo “Imager” y sirve para instalar imágenes en una tarjeta SD para que luego podamos usarla en nuestra Raspberry Pi. Personalmente, me ha sorprendido enterarme de que Raspberry ha lanzado esta herramienta porque parece que hace lo mismo que otras como Etcher, pero bueno, esta herramienta es oficial y debería funcionar aún mejor.

La nueva herramienta simplifica el proceso de creación de la tarjeta SD desde la que se instala el sistema operativo de las pequeñas Raspberry Pi.

Una vez descargada la herramienta desde su página oficial, y se ha instalado en el ordenador desde el que se creará la unidad de instalación, el usuario podrá elegir qué imagen desea escribir y en qué dispositivo.

Dentro de la propia herramienta también se incluyen algunas utilidades que permiten borrar la tarjeta de memoria cuando termina la instalación, por si quieres continuar usándola como almacenamiento.

Una de las ventajas de Raspberry Pi Imager es que guarda la imagen del sistema operativo que has descargado, por lo que puedes instalarlo consecutivamente en distintas tarjetas SD sin tener que volver a descargar la imagen cada vez. Esta opción permitirá ahorrar mucho tiempo a aquellos usuarios que utilizan las Raspberry Pi para crear clústeres de ordenadores.
