The Nobel Prize Committee have got their act together and awarded this year's prize to Esther Duflo, Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer for their work in alleviating global poverty. Just in time: I'm about to teach a little bit of their thinking on Wednesday, so I hope it might spur some interest.

Incidentally, Duflo is only the second woman to win the Nobel Prize and also its youngest recipient - arguably she's also the first female economist to win the prize. The previous female prize winner, Elinor Ostrom, actually got her PhD in Politics.
