A CMS gives you direct access to the content on your web site. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost ‘no technical skill to manage'. CMS based dynamic websites are database driven so they’re faster than static websites.

Why Marketers Need a CMS in Their Toolkit this Year | MarTech - MarTech Zone

Why Marketers Need a CMS in Their Toolkit this Year | MarTech - MarTech Zone | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
A CMS needs to enable marketers to provide personalised content that is engaging to audiences and potential customers, whilst also responding to their users’ wants and needs. As consumers are now interacting with brands across a range of different devices at varying times, cross-device and channel integration is fundamental but it can be tricky. Our 2016 report discovered that over half of marketers (51%) have difficulty reacting to new channels or devices, highlighting that it is not always simple to incorporate them into a CMS strategy.

To achieve a seamless customer journey that enables the brand to deliver whatever the customer wants, whenever they want it, marketers have to prioritise a multi-device strategy. This requires an improved level of understanding, meaning marketers have to start to hone in on and practice the skills they need to be able to confidently exploit this tool for the right reasons. This will allow brands to recognise the importance of CMS in bolstering strategies and goals.
Marteq's insight:

Should be a part of your stack, either best of breed or platform.

Marteq's insight:

For mid-size businesses, you'll probably settle for whatever CMS is included into your marketing automation platform. But it's not best of breed, and given that you can just copy/paste HTML into your MAP, you may want to consider a separate CMS to ease your burden.

How Modular Content Works - Newfangled | #TheMarketingTechAlert

How Modular Content Works - Newfangled | #TheMarketingTechAlert | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Six months ago, we began rethinking how we create web content.

Advanced/ Excerpts...

We need our CMS to provide content creation tools that:

-- >  Prioritize content without deprecating design. But unlike some of the snowfalling we've seen, we need something that helps us maintain a balance of design for attention. What you’re communicating is too important to be undermined by flash. You need a tool focused on supporting your thought leadership.

-- >  Offer a real return on your investment. That means they make creating and managing content easy and enjoyable enough that you’ll actually do it as regularly as you planned to. And that it will get easier over time.

-- >  Reduce template bloat, scale well, and provide stability.

We need modular content.

Rather than one open content area — in which you could put text and images using a WYSIWYG — or a template that has pre-determined text and media "buckets," modular content allows you to add any content — text or media — in blocks. It supports building pages ad-hoc, adding text and media as you need it in a variety of combinations. After you've stacked a bunch of these content blocks, you can re-sort them any way you like. It's basically content Legos.

Marteq's insight:

Modular development makes perfect sense, and is the most useful for the non-designer. Not too dissimlar to the modular email templates available in MailChimp.

Marketing Technology Insights: Most Comprehensive, Easy-To-Use CMS Comparison Tool Ever!

Marketing Technology Insights: Most Comprehensive, Easy-To-Use CMS Comparison Tool Ever! | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
What if you could generate a CMS comparison that actually gave you the information you needed to eliminate the choices?

Digest...

The CMS Matrix: It's an incredibly nifty CMS comparison tool - but it's not just any tool. It has tons of information on each CMS, and my favorite thing about it is the conversation it stirs between marketing, IT, and the executives.

CMS Matrix is great because it(s):

  • Updates regularly
  • Has every CMS ever (just about).
  • Comprehensive color-coding makes it easy to spot differences.
  • Makes the process of elimination even easier - especially when certain specs are deal-breakers.
  • Search for a CMS with drop-down/user-generated specs.
  • Focus on certain attributes within table (Hide/Show Stickies feature).
Marteq's insight:

And it is great. Just click through and see how the comparisons are made. Sort by most compared as well.
