A Digital Marketer's Guide to Visual Cues - ConversionXL

A Digital Marketer's Guide to Visual Cues - ConversionXL | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
The visual cues did impact how much a user pays attention to the form.

  • The hand-drawn arrow resulted in the longest amount of time on the form.
  • The human looking away from the form resulted in the shortest.
So, while every site is different, here’s some empirical data that says you should perhaps test hand-drawn directional objects (e.g. an arrow) for guiding the attention of users.

Also, if you use an image of a human as a visual cue, have this person looking in the direction of the CTA or key feature. The human looking away was the worst in terms of fixation time.
Marteq's insight:

Excellent guide on visual cues. As usual...TEST!

Building a CTA Button Your Leads Can’t Help But Click - Kissmetrics

Building a CTA Button Your Leads Can’t Help But Click - Kissmetrics | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Lead to the button with benefits
Drive more leads by offering your unique selling point. When a customer clicks on your CTA button, they should know why it will benefit them. Start with a confident headline on the page that conveys a key value you offer, and support it with a subhead that explains it. Follow with clear button copy that encourages users to claim these benefits.

If you’re like everyone else – boring and wordy – you won’t get your customers to pay attention or even to think about clicking your CTA. Add personality, emotions and enthusiasm to help draw in customers.
Marteq's insight:

The complete post is a useful reminder as to what is important, but I cherrypicked an obvious one: lead to the button with benefits.

The Last Bulletproof Button You’ll Ever Need - Email on Acid

The Last Bulletproof Button You’ll Ever Need - Email on Acid | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Buttons can be one of the most frustrating parts of email development. It has to look great (or at least look like a button) in every single client, because this little colored block is what all your high-conversions dreams are resting on. I built this button to use for our in-house mailings, and I thought I'd share it here.

This button accomplishes a few things. It includes spacers to help you control how much space appears before and after the button. It's also built so that the entire colored area of the button is clickable/touchable, not just the text. One advantage this button has, being code-based instead of image-based, is that it's always visible, even when image blocking is turned on. There are two versions of this button included, one centered and one left aligned.

4 Parts of a Must-Click Call to Action | Convince and Convert: Social Media Strategy and Content Marketing Strategy

4 Parts of a Must-Click Call to Action | Convince and Convert: Social Media Strategy and Content Marketing Strategy | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

Digest...

1. Use first person.

Did you know that changing the pronoun in your CTA could drastically improve conversions? In one case, changing from “start your free 30-day trial period” to “start my free 30-day trial period” increased conversions by 90%!

2. Keep it simple, but specific.

Use language that reflects what your customer is going to receive when they click. Put yourself in their shoes: What’s the next step in the sales process? Do they want to see prices? Sign up for a newsletter? Share with friends?

3. Add social proof.

Social proof helps to convince a potential customer that people like them are buying—and loving—your product. It can take several different forms – Product reviews help customers make decisions. Logos of companies that have used or featured your product give credibility. Testimonials with photos are often used to attract like-minded buyers.

4. Don’t assume you know how your customers will act.

Sometimes our customers do wacky things. That is why A/B testing is so critical.

Marteq's insight:

If you want an immediate boost, follow #1. Start there, enjoy the uplift, and move to the others.

Sales Renewal's curator insight, October 29, 2014 7:02 AM

Is it time to assess your Calls to Action? Here are four things to consider:

  1. use the first person;
  2. keep it simple - and specific;
  3. add "social proof" - testimonials, for example;
  4. A/B test wherever possible - don't assume you know how visitors will act.

Turn Your CTAs Into Helpful Tools: 5 CTAs that dramatically increased page performance | MarketingExperiments | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Effective calls-to-action aren’t based on a set of “best practices.” Instead, they should be thought of as an element of customer service. That approach makes the CTA about the audience, not the marketer. This post features five quick-hit examples of making the customer the focus of the call-to-action and how each of those examples performed against a more traditionally approached control.
