A new model for business presentations - CIO.com

A new model for business presentations - CIO.com | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
A business presentation is a live performance and the live performance is first and foremost a shared experience between the presenter and the audience. The intent of the presentation is to transform the audience’s thinking, not command their obedience. The live performance model recognizes that the audience plays a role in that experience. The live performance model invites questions from the audience. It allows for contributions to be made by the audience and for ideas to emerge from the audience.

If members of the audience possess key knowledge that is essential to the shared experience and the goals we are trying to achieve, and if they are to become actors in the implementation of decisions and realization of those goals, then it is important for the presenter to describe active roles for those audience members in a project narrative which invites and allows the audience to make those contributions: that make meaningful response on the part of the audience possible. That is the way we move audiences to action.

The new voice of authority comes from skillful management of the presentation experience. The presenter serves as the catalyst between the audience and the content of the presentation. The goal of the presenter is to reach their audience, transform their thinking and move them to action. That is how great presentations are allowed to emerge.
Marteq's insight:

Ultimately, the degree of performance really depends on the audience. Hey: whatever works...

Google Slides makes it easier to talk back to presenters - TechWorld

Google Slides makes it easier to talk back to presenters - TechWorld | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

"Slides Q&A will let audiences send text questions through the Web when listening to a presentation using Google's software. As a presenter is talking, she can see the questions and respond to them, without waiting for someone to speak into a microphone.

In addition to submitting questions, audience members can also vote on which ones they want to see answered. That means presenters facing a mountain of queries can filter by the most liked and tackle an audience's burning questions.

Presenters won't have to worry about making sure that a microphone is set up for audience Q&A, and can instead focus on walking in, giving their presentation, and taking feedback from the audience. "

B2B Sales Conversations Said Often Lacking Visual Component

B2B Sales Conversations Said Often Lacking Visual Component | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

While visual content is proving its worth in areas ranging from e-commerce sites to Facebook posts, visual components are often lacking in B2B sales conversations.  Asking respondents what visual aides they use in their presentations, the survey found that a majority eschew them entirely, relying on in-person (27%) and phone (26%) conversations. The PowerPoint (33%) presentation is relatively widely used, but only 13% use an interactive writing surface such as a whiteboard.

How One Clear Verb Can Take Your Presentations From Blah To Amazing

How One Clear Verb Can Take Your Presentations From Blah To Amazing | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

This article is beautiful. Nothing to do with marketing automation, and everything to do with marketing. Find that one action verb, and focus on it!:

We know that a beat ends and a new beat begins when there is a major shift or change in the conversation. Within each beat the actor, of course, speaks the lines from the script. More importantly, though, the actor picks an objective for the beat. The objective is the actor’s secret little mantra, if you will. It is never stated out loud, but it is vivid in the actor’s mind. Actors know that the moment they find a clear objective for a beat, it gives everything they say a strong purpose. It charges the words with energy. It lifts the scene to a higher level of intensity. There are three golden rules that actors know about an objective:

1. The objective needs to be an action verb.
2. It needs to describe the impact I seek to have on another person.
3. It needs to be visceral for me.

Why Your Content Strategy Should Include Prezi

Why Your Content Strategy Should Include Prezi | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

Prezi was initially created to present architectural drawings in an interactive manner. Since then, it has developed into a full-fledged presentation tool with multiple applications, such as:

-Presenting complex network and process diagrams

-Mind mapping

-Visualizing data

-Content marketing

-Resumes (nicknamed “Prezumes”)

-Expressing creative ideas

How you use Prezi in your content strategy is entirely up to you, though try not to reinvent the wheel. Take inspiration from companies that have already used Prezi — i.e., use their strategies as a template to get familiar with the tool, and then move to more innovative applications.

The content that you share through Prezi should be chosen carefully. It should be such that the extra dimension reveals insights that would be difficult to highlight otherwise. For example, you could use a Prezi to publish richer and more interactive infographics about your industry, zooming in on different data representations in a predetermined sequence.

Authentic Presentations Take Practice | HBR.org

Use your physical expression to its fullest by:

-Peeling yourself away from your slides. If you turn your back to the audience to look at your slides, you put up a physical and psychological barrier. As much as you can, keep your eyes on the audience. Let people see your face.

-Opening up your posture. Avoid a "closed" stance, such as folding your arms, standing with legs crossed, putting your hands in your pockets, or clasping your hands behind or in front of you. It signals discomfort.

-Using gestures to amplify what you're saying. If you're presenting a record year in sales, go "big" with your arms. If your team barely missed its targets, bring everything in, perhaps showing a tiny little gap between your thumb and forefinger.\
