Seeing and Sensing Wholeness in Nature and Organisations

Seeing and Sensing Wholeness in Nature and Organisations | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
The mantra of business today is: ‘If it can’t be measured, it can’t be managed’. The problem that we are facing is not the decision to measure or not to measure, since measurement is a fundamental aspect of business management. We have to rethink our understanding of what measurement is, and how it relates to…

Engage Employees for Systems Change

Engage Employees for Systems Change | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
Leaders around the world are challenged as they try to spread new ideas across organizations or throughout communities. They have found how difficult it is to get a whole system engaged to implement initiatives. Over time, different approaches have been tried to shape deep engagement for change. Most approaches asked each person or team to follow a “recipe” to implement the latest initiative. Often, however the recipe was not enough to bring about lasting change.

Navigating Your Recruiting Strategy – Complexity Space Consulting

Navigating Your Recruiting Strategy – Complexity Space Consulting | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
In an earlier post, “Adapting Your Recruiting Process – It’s all about the View,” we suggested that system-wide patterns generated by an organization’s Ecosystem Dimensions offer a different view of a recruiting strategy. Deciding how to proceed in light of that new perspective can be perplexing. Navigating an organization’s existing procedures and processes is similar to opening a map, figuring out where you are and where you deciding where you want to go. We think thatMore

A Brief Introduction to Change Management

Developed and produced by Paul Brown, 'A Brief Introduction to Change Management' is the first of a management series and delivers a concise and very accessible intro to Change Management.

The message is simple: "Change is pervasive in our society and a fact of life in organizations. Change management is about modifying or transforming organizations in order to maintain or improve their effectiveness". Quoting a myriad of Change pioneers, Darwin, a hint of popular philosophy and many groundbreaking theories, Brown succeeded to put the Change Management concept across in a succinct and somehow entertaining way, and as result, sets the bar high for forthcoming works.

Towards a Reskilling Revolution

Towards a Reskilling Revolution | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
As the types of skills needed in the labour market change rapidly, individual workers will have to engage in life-long learning if they are to achieve fulfilling and rewarding careers. For companies, reskilling and upskilling strategies will be critical if they are to find the talent they need and to contribute to socially responsible approaches to the future of work. For policy-makers, reskilling and retraining the existing workforce are essential levers to fuel future economic growth, enhance societal resilience in the face of technological change and pave the way for future-ready education systems for the next generation of workers.

Why I Stopped Doing Annual Employee Reviews

Why I Stopped Doing Annual Employee Reviews | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
When my company Phone2Action launched in 2013, we tried to manage employee performance with annual reviews. It was pointless. Why wait months to discuss problems that matter now? In a startup, we needed to move faster and calibrate more often than annual reviews permitted. Related: Want Your Employees to Be High Performers? Tie Goals to Rewards Like Extra Days Off or Cold Hard Cash. We scrapped reviews and implemented a performance management system developed by Martin O'Malley, former governor of Maryland. He "disrupted" conventional management techniques well before Agile and Lean Startup methodologies swept through Silicon Valley. Today, many companies use "data-driven" management techniques.

From Territorial to Functional Sovereignty: The Case of Amazon | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
Frank Pasquale – Economists tend to characterize the scope of regulation as a simple matter of expanding or contracting state power. But a political economy perspective emphasizes that social relations abhor a power vacuum. When state authority contracts, private parties fill the gap. That power can feel just as oppressive, and have effects just as…

Systems in Focus - Business

Systems in Focus - Business | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it

Deciding when to expand a business is difficult in any industry. For the airline industry, there are both large investments and long delays involved in expansion, making it important to test your assumptions as you go.

This model uses a Bass Diffusion model to start and then expand an airline business. Expansion occurs when the predicted market share exceeds a specific threshold, which provides some headroom for additional growth in existing markets as expansion takes place. This simple model does not look at the impact of competitors, but rather sets the number of potential passengers to those the airline can expect to win over time. There is a limit on the number of routes that can be added before saturating the market.
