A Mental Models Reference (inspired by Charlie Munger) - Airtable Universe

A Mental Models Reference (inspired by Charlie Munger) - Airtable Universe | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it

In Tren Griffin's article on all that he learned from Charlie Munger, he quotes Munger discussing how to make better decisions:

"I think it is undeniably true that the human brain must work in models. The trick is to have your brain work better than the other person's brain because it understands the most fundamental models: ones that will do most work per unit....You've got to have models in your head. And you've got to array your experience - both vicarious and direct - on this latticework of models."

When I first read this, I realized simultaneously that: 1) this is a great way to think about the world, and 2) I don't do this very well at all. So, I set about trying to get better.

How to Make a Systems Graphic to Understand Shared Enterprises

How to Make a Systems Graphic to Understand Shared Enterprises | Thinking about Systems | Scoop.it
Wherever we are, we need to deal with complex systems, from small family units to whole environmental ecosystems. With zillions of entities interacting, it's almost impossible to keep track of how our actions may affect the world. When we are faced with such situations and need to understand complex systems or find solutions to complicated problems, it can be helpful to visualize our understanding of these interactions.
