As educators, we constantly strive to prepare our students for the ‘real world’ that exists around them. We teach them how to read, write, and calculate. Then, of course, there are the less tangible skills we teach; such as how to work in a team, think critically, and be curious about the things they encounter each day.

Below is a graphic I have created a few months ago in which I featured a host of important skills to grope for in today's education. I have divided these skills into three major areas : digital skills. thinking skills, and learning skills. Of course all of these skills are interrelated with each other and are applicable in more than one area. for instance , we can use the digital skill of online searching to cultivate a learning skill which is finding information...etc

Este es uno de esos artículos que tenía pendiente desde hacía tiempo. Si no me he decidido a escribirlo hasta ahora, ha sido principalmente porque son tantos los retos que debemos asumir como docentes, que no siempre resulta fácil concentrarlas en lo que llamaría una guía para docentes del siglo XXI, para docentes que han tomado la determinación de mirar hacia adelante y esperar, del futuro, lo mejor.

Cualquier proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje transmite algún contenido, pero inevitablemente también algún valor. Aún cuando la educación se entienda como mera instrucción, se transmiten valores. Paradógicamente, el mismo hecho de intentar educar de forma neutra, sin transmitir valores, es una forma de transmitirlos.
