Here’s some of the most interesting ones, which are designed for specific purposes, such as increased privacy, safer searching, videos, maths and music....

Zurich-based startup Kooaba is out to replace QR Codes with a mobile app called Shortcut, an updated of an app it formerly called Paperboy. Why should marketers consider a shortcut to quick response codes? “We believe QR codes are belonging to an intermediate technology used for things it was never meant for," wrote Tom Desmet in a company blog post. "Despite the enormous media attention QR is getting, it still is not at a level where people are really using it.”...

Learn how to create an editorial style guide that helps streamline your company's content creation efforts. Content creation is central to your inbound marketing success, but as your volume of written content increases, inconsistencies are also bound to arise. One of the first resources we created when starting Rabbit in early 2010 was a list of 20 free social media evaluation tools. Not measurement, evaluation. Tools that will give you some form of meaningful data that you can use in reports. And ones that don’t cost anything. Fast forward almost two years and a lot of that list is out of date, with many of the originals no longer being around or having ‘upgraded’ to full paid for services. As a result, it’s time for a refresh. This is by no means an extensive list, there are other tools around in addition to these, but even a few of them together will provide you with meaningful intelligence. The 20 are as follows... Vimeo today announced that the video sharing site has undergone a major revamp. The blog entry that announced the revamp revealed that the work had been ongoing for the past year, and that staff “tore Vimeo down, thought hard about every aspect of it, and created the new Vimeo from scratch.” There are dozens of new features on Vimeo, but the main changes were made in order to make the site faster and easier, with the focus being on the videos uploaded by users, while taking users’ feedback into account when creating the new features....

Ah analytics, I love them. I take all numbers with a grain of salt but it is nice to see if your efforts are paying off and what things people share or inspire a click. For example, a recent popular tweet, based on number of clicks, was a tweet about Klout with 177 clicks – clearly my followers are interested in Klout. Some tools allow you to see who has unfollowed you and who your new followers are or even help you find new people to follow. I also find it nice to know who my biggest retweeters or mentioners were for the week and acknowledge them. I am glad I picked this question, because I have some seriously smart friends answering and they had a few surprises for me....

What are today’s most popular social media tools? I proposed a short list on the Social Journalism Educators group on Facebook: Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, Storify, Instagram, YouTube, WordPress. You’ll note (if you roll over and read the tooltip) that none of the links above go to the home page for that tool — instead, I have linked to useful articles that can help us understand how journalists use (or can use) each one of these particular tools. Then others in the Facebook group recommended the following sites and tools...

21st century public relations pros don't need expensive equipment to create quality photos & videos. Six iPhone accessories to do just that.
