CAST is offering the UDL101A Online Course that consists of 12 sessions - 9 online sessions and 3 synchronous Web conference sessions. Space is limited to 20 educators.

CAST is conducting a two-day institute, "Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Addressing the Variability of All Learners", on November 1-2, 2012.
"In this two-day institute, participants will explore these questions while learning about the principles and application of UDL. In addition to hearing presentations from leaders in the field of UDL, participants will have the opportunity to actively engage in guided practice and hands-on experiences as they work on the development of a lesson, unit of study, or action plan to integrate UDL into practice.
The institute highlights UDL, emphasizing the UDL guidelines and application to practice, including: > Connections between learning and neuroscience > The three UDL principles and related benchmarks and checkpoints > The curriculum framework of goals, methods, materials, and assessment as a structure for designing lessons > Examples of practice that illustrate alignment of UDL to curriculum > Hands-on exploration of technologies that support UDL > Understanding that UDL is a change initiative"

UDL: Universal Design in Learning is a concept that promotes teaching to all students in your class. Some excellent strategies and techniques. If you are not familiar or need some more exposure, this should be a great webinar. You might want to share it with your friends.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has a great ring to it as it infers that lessons and instruction are designed for all learners in the classroom. Can you imagine learning environments where all learners can thrive? Using the UDL lens to understand the learners in your classroom can help teachers do exactly that.
Placing this concept in the field of education, the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST) coined UDL to apply to all learners, regardless of (dis)abilities. In 2003, CAST has been creating instructional materials for over 10 years, mostly digital, to fit this principle of “universal”. Now 10 years later, the concept is finally becoming more known in our new times of the Common Core and increasingly accessible digital technologies.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and RTI are gaining traction as more states and school districts are looking for ideal tools to implement the Common Core State Standards.
"To us, it makes perfect sense. With UDL, you really do start with addressing goals that are applicable for all learners," said Patti Ralabate, the director of implementation for CAST (www.cast.org) which developed UDL.
"Broadly, universal design for learning is an instructional method that involves creating lessons and classroom materials flexible enough to accommodate different learning styles. And response to intervention is an approach intended to provide early identification of students' learning problems paired with the use of focused lessons—interventions—to address those problems before it's too late."
"Districts already using either or both approaches say there is no question about their benefits for implementing the common-core standards."
