How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators

How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators | El rincón del Social Media | Scoop.it

TWITTER TRANSFORMS EDUCATORS

Before the advent of Twitter, most educators I know had limited opportunities to collaborate with colleagues outside their building. Some subscribed to listservs or participated in online forums, but these outlets lacked critical mass; teachers also networked at in-person conferences and training sessions, but these isolated events didn't provide ongoing support.

Enter Twitter. I've heard many educators say that Twitter is the most effective way to collaborate and that they've learned more with Twitter than they have from years of formal professional development.

Here are some of the specific ways educators are using Twitter to collaborate:

Twitter provides a great opportunity to collaborate with educators outside of your local physical community. The exchange of ideas and perspectives can reenergize your career. “Twitter is often just the introduction — the virtual handshake that opens the door to a deeper collaboration”

Education Is The New Marketing Strategy

Education Is The New Marketing Strategy | El rincón del Social Media | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Just as much as music is no longer in the hands of record companies and books are no longer in the hands of traditional book publishers, learning is not anymore in the hands of schools and other educational institutions.

Today a person can learn from a myriad of new different sources, at his own pace and time.

"The internet has democratized education and businesses should take notice.

You are in business because you have some area of expertise.

Sharing your expertise is a way to help you build your brand and provide value."

From the original article: "The Education of Millionaires, a book by Michael Ellsberg that proposes that the best investment in education is one that offers lifelong, relevant knowledge that will make you financially successful.

He urges people to find mentors and experts to teach the skills they need, rather than investing six figures in a traditional college education that is unlikely to contribute to their ability to earn a living.

I have mixed feelings about suggesting that people forgo or drop out of college, but I believe we are seeing a trend worth noting.

People are looking to non-traditional sources to learn from. Education and business are merging. "

The article is full of short, valuable insights, like these:

"As a brand, your expertise in the product you sell — in every way it affects the people who use it — sets you apart. If you sell shoes, you could teach fashion or fitness. If your product is food, teach nutrition."

"Consumers need information to choose when there are too many options."

"Education is a form of curation."

Right on track. Must-read. 8/10

G+ is catching up big time for many reasons.  Among these reasons is the Hangout integration.

We just facilitated a remote 1.5 day leadership development session with Hangouts and it was fantastic.

Google is sticking to their strategy and their value is starting to win people over.  I was never a fan and, through valuable features, I am changing my perspective on the suite of offerings.

This is a relevant infographic.

Five Good Guidelines for Content Curators

Five Good Guidelines for Content Curators | El rincón del Social Media | Scoop.it

from Joshua Merritt http://www.joshuamerritt.com/2012/09/20/if-curating-content-is-easy-youre-doing-it-wrong-5-tips-for-effective-content-curation/  and commented by Robin GOOD and Gust MEES...

==========================================

Robin Good: If you are looking for ways to improve your content curation efforts, Joshua Merritt has published five useful guidelines to follow.

These include abandoning high frequency / high-volume practices, integrating your opinion whenever possible, researching deeper, citing sources and treating curation like original content production.

Joshua writes: "If two different people curate and distribute the same content (which happens every day times thousands), what makes the experience of your followers more valuable?

The answer doesn’t have to lie in a single piece of content, but it must lie in the story arch of the greater body of work, and the more you treat each item you curate as a diamond in the rough that needs some extra cutting and polishing to be ready for your audience, the better your content will perform and the more loyalty you will drive in your followers."

Rightful. 7/10

===========================================

Gust MEES: I agree completely with that and must say also this; when people "rescoop" a curation so they should also share it as an "as it" and ===> not deleting curators opinion as it would get seen as "censorship"!!! <===

Curators won't feel happy with that at all, please "respect" this, thank You in advance. If YOU don't like the curator's opinion, feel free to click the link to original post and share that link instead ;)

How To Design Your Own Infographics

Infographics seem to be a real trend today, with new ones popping up daily on all sorts of subjects.

Infographics seem to be a real trend today, with new ones popping up daily on all sorts of subjects. From mortgages to ice cream, estimating software to infographics about infographics, there is very little now that hasn't been 'visualised' in some form. Many people don't realise that the term information graphic, or 'infographic' was first coined over 100 years ago, with the Coxcomb chart by Florence Nightingale in 1857 being one of earliest recognised examples. They have existed in many forms since then, but only in the past few years have infographics developed into the art form we know today.

Complete List of Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools #ActitudSocial

Complete List of Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools #ActitudSocial | El rincón del Social Media | Scoop.it

Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web

The power of the Web is in its universality.
Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect.

The Web is fundamentally designed to work for all people, whatever their hardware, software, language, culture, location, or physical or mental ability. When the Web meets this goal, it is accessible to people with a diverse range of hearing, movement, sight, and cognitive ability.

Thus the impact of disability is radically changed on the Web because the Web removes barriers to communication and interaction that many people face in the physical world. However, when websites, web technologies, or web tools are badly designed, they can create barriers that exclude people from using the Web.

The mission of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) is to lead the Web to its full potential to be accessible, enabling people with disabilities to participate equally on the Web.
