IBC 2013 : chipsets, HEVC et set-top-box

IBC 2013 : chipsets, HEVC et set-top-box | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

VeriSilicon Releases New Generation of Hantro Video IP Products to Promote WebM and WebRTC [PR]

VeriSilicon Releases New Generation of Hantro Video IP Products to Promote WebM and WebRTC [PR] | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

VeriSilicon had an excellent year 2011 on promoting WebM, a free, open media format, and WebRTC, a free, open real-time communications framework, through Hantro video semiconductor IP licensing. Most tier-1 semiconductor companies adopted VP8 video format for WebM by integrating Hantro G1 Multi-format Decoder and Hantro H1 Multi-format Encoder, the only commercially available encoding IP supporting both H.264 and VP8, into their chips and platforms.

This enables WebM video in a number of new, exciting devices such as media tablets, smart phones and smart TVs. Under an existing licensing agreement with Google, VeriSilicon has rights to commercially license Hantro G1 Multi-format Decoder and Hantro H1 Multi-format Encoder products to semiconductor companies worldwide and modify the Hantro video IPs to enhance core architecture and add new features.

IBC content protection: a bomb-proof shelter inside a SoC

IBC content protection: a bomb-proof shelter inside a SoC | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Pay TV security is an ongoing battle between operators and not just pirates but also individuals who would rather not pay for the service. At the same time, operators have one hand tied behind their backs because unlike in banking, customers are not bothered if someone next door is hacking into their service. This rules out biometric techniques to authenticate users since people are unwilling to have their eyeballs examined to get at their premium content.

At IBC this year there was a growing view among operators and security vendors that no single technology can defeat the pirates, especially as services extend to multiple devices in TV Anywhere and OTT deployments. There is also recognition that defences against increasingly sophisticated attacks on encryption keys held in System on a Chip (SoC) components in set-top boxes, home gateways and other devices require stronger defences.

For this reason the San Francisco based cryptography company Cryptography Research has gained significant traction among both silicon manufacturers and conditional access (CA) vendors, leading to two significant announcements during the show :

- firstly, the company announced that a fourth Pay TV SoC vendor, MStar Semiconductor, was licensing its CryptoFirewall technology in addition to Broadcom, ST Microelectronics and ViXS, which are already on board.

- a licensing agreement with CA vendor Verimatrix

KALRAY to showcase low power, live Ultra HD (4K) HEVC encoder at CES 2014 in collaboration with DivX

KALRAY to showcase low power, live Ultra HD (4K) HEVC encoder at CES 2014 in collaboration with DivX | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

KALRAY, the designer and exclusive provider of the low power, high performance MPPA MANYCORE processor, today announced plans to demonstrate at CES 2014, the first low power live Ultra HD HEVC (4K) encoder running on the KALRAY MPPA MANYCORE processor. The demonstration is streaming DivX HEVC UltraHD (4K) video to a set top box.

Less than a year after it was first made available to the market, the MPPA-256 , KALRAY’s first MPPA® MANYCORE processor coming with 256 cores on a single chip, will be used for a world première demonstration at CES 2014, being held in Las Vegas (Jan 7-10). The MPPA-256 processor demonstrates a complete Ultra HD HEVC live encoding and decoding flow based on DivX HEVC UltraHD video.

The MainConcept HEVC SDK is used in the demo and is capable of encoding a high-qualityUltra HD HEVC video at 30 fps using four MPPA®-256 processors which consume less than 50 Watts altogether. Decoding and live display on a commercially available Ultra HD TV is being performed by a single MPPA based EMB01 embedded board, which was recently announced by KALRAY.

Nicolas Weil's comment, September 11, 2012 4:19 AM
