Disney Demos Automated Multicamera Editing

Disney Demos Automated Multicamera Editing | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Disney Researchers have come up with a way to auto-edit together footage from multiple social cameras. The team created an algorithm that takes in multiple video feeds and outputs a “single video of user-specified length that cuts between the multiple feeds automatically,” according to their research paper.

Researchers Ido Arev, Hyun Soo Park, Yaser Sheikh, Jessica Hodgins and Ariel Shamir, said their algorithm uses “existing cinematic rules.”

By determining the center of attention of the cameras and, by default, their operators, the algorithm indicates where the cuts should go. The center of attention is key. It is derived from the orientation of each person involved in a group activity and the footage they capture. The aggregate of the resulting viewing angles is referred to as the “gaze concurrence” or “3D joint attention,” which produces a metric for the “spatial and temporal location of the important ‘content’ of the activity.”

Technicolor concept brings the stadium to your sofa

Technicolor concept brings the stadium to your sofa | Video Breakthroughs | Scoop.it

Technicolor has demoed a new technology at this year's CES in Las Vegas that would allow you to watch a football match as if you had actually has a seat in the stadium.

The new tech, dubbed Personalized Content Rendering, which is expected to become a commercial reality in the next couple of years, uses six cameras at the stadium to create the ultimate moving panoramic view.

Where Technicolor comes into the project is through the behind-the-scenes software that merges the six individual video feeds into one before allowing you control over where to look within that picture.

BBC R&D White Paper : Web delivery of free-viewpoint video of sport events

This paper describes capture and web delivery of free-viewpoint video (FVV). FVV allows the viewer to freely change the viewpoint. This is particularly attractive to view and analyse sport incidents. Based on previous work on the capture and replay of sport events for TV programme making we present a FVV player based on the WebGL API, which is part of HTML 5. The player implements a streaming mode over IP and an image-based rendering using view-dependent texture mapping.

This paper was presented at the NEM Summit, Istanbul, 16-18th October 2012, and was given the Best Paper award. The slides shown during the presentation are included as an appendix.
