Welcome to Marc's violin world

Welcome to Marc's violin world | Violins | Scoop.it

I met violin when I was young. I fall in love. It was not reciprocal - I never was able to play a decent scale. But my love survived.

Violin is ultra simple in concept: no moving pieces, no predefined notes. Yet, it offers infinite possibilities. My violin world is violin across boundaries: across music styles, geographies and times. Enjoy and feel free to suggest.

Merci pour votre message. Violons et Violes sont cousins. Votre topic est très belle et intéressante. A suivre:http://www.scoop.it/t/viole-de-gambe/ et suis en train de mettre en place un site. A bientôt.

Alexei Arkhipovsky. Balalaika reinvented.

Marc Rougier's insight:

Only 3 strings!?! And a bit of talent... Awesome.

I like how local, traditional instruments can give birth to universal, modern musics. Listen also to this other piece (less poetic, more energetic).

Leonid Kogan - Sarasate Zigeunerweisen

Marc Rougier's insight:

I love the accuracy of Leonid Kogan's bow strokes. I like his eyes, his concentration; makes me think of an actor. Super dense but also not showing emotion. Great piece too.

Leonardo Da Vinci's Viola Organista is ALIVE!

Leonardo Da Vinci's Viola Organista is ALIVE! | Violins | Scoop.it
Marc Rougier's insight:

My mind is blown.

The genius of Da Vinci; everybody knows he is a genius, one of the few universally recognized geniuses; yet, are we ready to discover more from him?

The skill, patience and dertermination of this visionary musician who brought Da Vinci's plan to life 500 hundred years later!

And it works! It does sound both weird and nice. Ok the chosen pieces are not all that great, but Marin Marais sounds perfect. This wacky piece of art needs to be seen and heard.

Scooped in Violins because Viola belongs to the family (granted, this viola organista is a fairly remote cousin).

Tchaikovsky : Violin Concerto

Marc Rougier's insight:

This video is 38 minutes long: too much for a post. But Tchaikovsky's concerto deserves it :) Violinist is Sayaka Shoji. I might prefer versions which are a bit more "violent", but this one is full of emotion. And well fimed too.

(edited) Here is a take by super master Heifetz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fCuMFGVwhc. And Heifetz being Heifetz, it's 7 minutes shorter. On fire! :)

Marylene Delbourg-Delphis's comment, September 21, 2013 5:59 PM
Thanks! I still prefer Heifetz and Perlman.
Marc Rougier's comment, September 21, 2013 7:28 PM

Awesome Hurdy Gurdy

Marc Rougier's insight:

After Balalaika re-invented, another amazing pieces based on mixing modern music with traditional instrument (and yes, the Urdy Gurdy is a brother of the violin). The modern style starts at around 2 min. By Guilhem Desq.

Violinist play through his brain surgery

Violinist play through his brain surgery | Violins | Scoop.it

Doctors would normally fix a tremor like Roger Frisch’s by keeping him awake during surgery, inserting electrodes deep into his brain until the trembling appeared to stop.

Marc Rougier's insight:

Brain surgery. How to test, real time, that the surgeon is touching the right part of the brain. Impressive.
