Infographic: 4,000 Years Of Human History Captured In One Retro Chart | #eHealthPromotion, #SaluteSocial | Scoop.it

If time is a river, the Histomap, first published by Rand McNally back in 1931, is a raging Mississippi. In that massive river of time, each of humanity’s great civilizations becomes a confluence that ebbs, wanes, and sometimes ebbs again, each a separate current in a river that inexorably rages down to the mouth of the present day.

Although certainly not modern, the Histomap is still a breathtaking example of good infographic design: A five-foot, roll-up chart that can fit an overview of human history on any wall. Starting in 2000 B.C. with seven different civilizations--the Aegeans, the Egyptians, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Iranians, the Indians, the Huns, and the Chinese--you travel forward or backward in time as your eyes move up or down 0.75 inches. Some civilizations bleed together, others are swallowed up; some surge, others crash...

Had higher hopes for this infographic. Granted focusing on KNOWN holidays is always smart retailing, but wanted cool ideas such as:

* Facebook Friends Contests - Can you get your Facebook friends to do some good?
* Facebook LIVE - Stream content live to Facebook and hold a contest to see who does this best / has most interesting stream.
* Facebook Picture Contest - adaptable to any business vertical and idea since Facebook is about pictures primarily.
* Facebook Question Contest - every business can use this one too.
* Best Parents / Grandparents / Kids on Facebook contest - not sure what the judging criteria would be here but love the social media generation.

Make sure rewards are more SOCIAL than material and read Pink's book Drive for why. No matter what be sure to pull links back to owned properties or you just make FB richer and they don't need your money (you do :).

Take A Look At What Happens Every Single Minute On The Internet | #eHealthPromotion, #SaluteSocial | Scoop.it
Early last year we learned that one hour of YouTube is uploaded every second. It was a bracing reminder of just how many people are spending their time online simultaneously.

Created by rewards site Qmee, the infographic "Online In 60 Seconds" is a pie chart that shows off the sheer amount of online activity that takes place every single minute. The amount of YouTube videos uploaded has already increased from January 2012's 60 hours per minute to 72. Additionally, over 1.8 million things are liked on Facebook, and 278 thousand bon mots tweeted. Not depicted in the chart: the amount of work that is going undone while all of these items are being viewed.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is all about the quality of your backlinks, right?

Wrong. Not any more. At least, not wholly, as anupdated study from those good people atSearchmetrics has revealed just how important social media signals are to a strong SEO ranking, with well-positioned URLs almost always having a high number of Likes, shares, tweets and +1s.

Indeed, seven of the ten most important factors in SEO ranking now come from social media, as below.

How Social Media Impacts SEO and Site Ranking: infographic | #eHealthPromotion, #SaluteSocial | Scoop.it

Search engine optimization has not been dependent on a minimal number of factors for a long time now, such as number of times a keyword appeared on a page, and it continues to become a more complex web of on and off-page factors every month. One of the more recent factors that has had an impact on search ranking is social media.

This infographic breaks down ways that social media influences the visibility of your website in search results, including:

Social media can help search engines find and index your content faster Likes, shares, retweets, etc. indicates to search engine that content is new and interesting, often leading to a temporary increase in rankingsYour content will increase in search results for people connected to youIncreases domain authority and the number of inbound links to your website

Venkatesh - if I am able I give my site as much media support as I can. As a social media trainer I need to 'try out' media before I can teach others to use it and give an insight into which is useful and which is not. So I tend to put my site and what I am doing out on the various social media platforms at least twice a day - I don't over emphasise my site because that can be counter productive (people switch off if all they see from you is self-promotion) and so it is keeping your presence alive but not switching off potential clients by constant ME, ME, ME. I perform both SEO services and social media training for others (see - just a bit of self promotion LOL)

This infographic is a great way to depict many of the articles I've previously pointed out that cover SEO and social media. It is almost easier to explain the relationship in an image format, especially for those who don't have a background in SEO.

There are many other factors that go into how much social media truly affects SEO, so there is more to be explained after this. But this is a great introductory image. It also emphasizes the speed with which social media makes an impact.
