Content curation does NOT hurt your SERP, but it won't help either UNLESS you add value. Plain 'ol RSS feeds into your site add nothing, however, if you are putting effort into finding the right content, then adding intelligent commentary, then tag it with the rel=author (to add to your Google Authorship ranking). Add value, and you'll be fine!
