Using E-Portfolios in the Classroom

Using E-Portfolios in the Classroom | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

With more and more schools going paperless or migrating to the "cloud" (storing files on the Internet), student work has become more easily shareable, accessible by many, and more easily organized. Many teachers have turned to digital portfolios -- or "e-portfolios" -- for their students. These digital portfolios have caused a huge shift in how teachers assign, collect and assess student classwork and projects.

Impressive, Ludmilla!! Love PBworks as well.
Rebecca Delabrer's curator insight, October 5, 2014 9:45 PM

This article describes how student's work in school used to be more private and usually only seen by the teacher if it was done on paper. Now that schools are resorting to "paperless" classrooms, children's work is becoming much more easy to share and find and other things.

I don't think schools should go paperless. The internet is a dangerous place, especially for dumb kids our age. Not only that but the internet allows kids to cheat a lot easier than they already do now so it's promoting cheating indirectly.

Download the free tool from http://www.powerbullet.com/download.php

Leslie Buford's curator insight, May 10, 2013 10:05 AM

The voting 'eggs' in the suitcase, where each needed to be programmed, are obsolete.  Students and teachers can use their web devices to quickly set up polls and other interactive feedback quickly and easily with web based options, of which this is one of the simplest.  For iPad users, check out NearPod, Socrative, or Doceri, each with its own feature ist, to see which works best for you!  It can be difficult to move from traditonal modes of presentation to building interaction into instruction, but I am trying to plan future PD courses using this type of technology.  I would love feedback from teachers and professional development specialists about what works, pitfalls to look out for, and any other resources that you may suggest.

The Great Rebranding of MOOCs

The Great Rebranding of MOOCs | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

These arguments miss the point of the MOOC, and that point is, precisely, to make education available to people who cannot afford pay the cost to travel to and attend these small in-person events. Having one instructor for 20-50 people is expensive, and most of the world cannot afford that cost. That's *why* the institutions - from which the attendees of this conference were uniquely selected - charge thousands of dollars of tuition every year.

Via Vance Stevens, Nik Peachey
Jason R Levine's curator insight, May 11, 2013 9:07 PM

"MOOCs were not designed to serve the missions of the elite colleges and universities. They were designed to undermine them, and make those missions obsolete. Yes there has been a great rebranding and co-option of the concept of the MOOC over the last couple of years. The near-instant response from the elites, almost unprecedented in my experience, is a recognition of the deeply subversive intent and design of the original MOOCs (which they would like very much to erase from history)."
