Microchips are an issue, of course, but China also makes the alloy wheels our cars mostly roll on. And what about TikTok?
Graham Watson's insight:

This rather bleak article looks at the implications of a war in Taiwan for the UK economy, but let's face it - any war that sees the US and China line up on opposite sides is going to be catastrophic for the global economy too.

China and Taiwan face off in pineapple war

China and Taiwan face off in pineapple war | International Economics: IB Economics | Scoop.it
Taiwan fights back against Chinese curbs on the export of their fruit - with plenty of support.
Graham Watson's insight:

Scarcely the "mother of all wars", to quote Saddam Hussain, but something akin to it, as China and Taiwan have embarked on a trade war over pineapples.

China has banned the import of Taiwanese pineapples on health and safety grounds, claiming that the pineapples have brought "hamrful creatures" into China, something the Taiwanese deny. As a result, the Taiwanese government have gone on the offensive, looking to encourage the export of pineapples elsewhere and increased domestic consumption. It is difficult to see a winner here.
