Sirad Suldan survived one of the worst droughts to hit Somalia. In 2016, about 40% of the country’s population was food insecure due to drought.

Niger: How Farmers Are Adapting in the Face of Drought and Desertification

In subsistence farming communities like Kornaka in Niger, drought and desertification directly impacts their ability to grow millet to feed and support their families.  By diversifying their crops to grow cassava as well and by planting drought-resistant millet seeds, they were able to adapt build resilience in the face of a changing climate.
