In short, it highlights the implications of Ukraine's inability to export grain for global food prices, and with that the developmental prospects of many in the poorest developing economies.

The country's inability to export its grain has led to food prices rising around the world.
Graham Watson's insight:

The Ukrainian government is calling for the establishment of safe passage for its grain exports - something that will be popular with everyone bar Russia. Not only would it provide Ukraine's farmers with an income but it would also lower global food prices. 

 

Unfortunately, neither of these options will appeal to Moscow.
