The Story of Maths

"When ancient Greece fell into decline, mathematical progress stagnated as Europe fell under the shadow of the Dark Ages. But in the East, mathematics would reach new heights".

Marc Rougier's insight:

Ahead of Alibaba IPO, a bit of history about maths. Chinese have formalized counting and equation 1000 years before the West. Wondering how Alibaba will do in terms of number (tomorrow!), but always a good reason to remember History. Great video.

As for the IPO itself, pre-IPO analysis from Wall Street Journal here.

Marc Rougier's insight:

The physics of the large scale universe is mind blowing. Who could resist Einstein, multiverses or spaghettification indeed?

Quantum physics (applying to the super small scale) is even better. Or worse. I don't understand any slightest tiniest bit of it, but it makes me dream. Poor cat.

Great article, with videos, explaining 5 experiments that challenge intuition (the least we can say...).

Best quote: "There is no time on a fundamental level”. Ah.

"Then, there was the stall selling authentic original canvases for $60 each. With no sign letting on who the artist was, no caché of a gallery and no post on the artist’s website, the booth was up all day with only three buyers and eight paintings sold. Estimated value per painting: $200,000 plus."
