Geoff Mulgan: A short intro to the Studio School

The Studio School sounds like a UDL environment where they understand how students learn and then engage them in real world problems.  Some kids learn by listening; others learn by doing. Geoff Mulgan gives a short introduction to the Studio School, a new kind of school in the UK where small teams of kids learn by working on projects that are, as Mulgan puts it, "for real."

UDL Strategies

UDL Strategies | UDL - Universal Design for Learning | Scoop.it

"UDL embraces three primary principles based on brain and learning research

1.) Multiple means of representation - the "what" of learning with varied ways that new information can be presented to students.
2.) Multiple means of expression - the "how" of learning with different ways that learners can navigate a learning environment and demonstrate their mastery.
3.) Multiple means of engagement - the "why" of learning with the many ways that students can be engaged in their learning and motivated to learn."

Preparing and Supporting Teachers for 21st Century Expectations through Universal Design for Learning

Integration of 21st century goals into teacher education programs requires attention to diversity, technology, and instructional supports in terms of how content material is presented, students are engaged, and learning is documented. Faced with barriers such as disparities in access to curriculum and technology, as well as differences in background experiences and prior knowledge, teachers in today's classrooms face unique challenges as they struggle to meet the diversity of needs within a single classroom setting. As a result, educators need innovative approaches to address the diversity of available resources, student characteristics, and other environmental challenges. One approach is the integration of Universal Design for Learning principles with instructional planning.
