ePortfolios – Page 2 – | Technology Enhanced Learning Research & Applications | Scoop.it
Fiona Harvey's insight:
I constantly refer to this as an example of why portfolios and badges can work together and should. The badge is part of your identity and the portfolio compliments and enhances it.  I am particularly interested in how evidence-based learning contributes to an online profile. NB: I deliberately didn't bother with the 'e' before the portfolio as it feels a bit redundant now.

Higher Education’s Panopticon? Learning Analytics, Ethics and Student Engagement

Higher Education’s Panopticon? Learning Analytics, Ethics and Student Engagement | Technology Enhanced Learning Research & Applications | Scoop.it
Is learning analytics a movement that seeks to rebalance the effects of higher education’s apparent blindness to privilege, its unequal access regimes and persistent retention and attainment gaps thro
Fiona Harvey's insight:
Superb paper on the use of Learning Analytics within Higher Education. In particular, the question of consent and knowledge to give that consent.  Students often agree with their data being used without really understanding the impact of that decision.

It is really well written and opens up all sorts of questions that should be discussed.

Fiona Harvey's insight:
If you watch or read nothing else, this should be on the essential reading list. Some thought provoking content here from Jim Groom and Brian Lamb with contributions from the work of Audrey Watters and Martin Weller amongst others.  A really inspiring piece from Educause.  Every Higher Education senior leadership team should be discussing the issues they raise from digital identity, open access, creating content and university systems.  Go light some fires.

Strategy, not Technology, Drives Digital Transformation | MIT Sloan Management Review

Strategy, not Technology, Drives Digital Transformation | MIT Sloan Management Review | Technology Enhanced Learning Research & Applications | Scoop.it
The 2015 Digital Business Report by MIT Sloan Management Review and Deloitte identifies strategy, not technology, as the key driver of success in the digital arena.
Fiona Harvey's insight:

A very useful and timely report.  Completely agree that without strategy the implementation (and purpose, therefore application of) is missing.

PKAL » Calibrated peer review

Fiona Harvey's insight:
Just watched a lecture from Eric Mazur where he mentioned Calibrated Peer Review.  This is a online system developed by UCLA which encourages students to peer review assignments.  This paper provides examples and explains the process. The system is hosted by UCLA and does require a small fee (depending on use and student numbers from $750 - $8,500 at the top end, mid range is about $1250)

What your supervisor means when they give advice on your draft

What your supervisor means when they give advice on your draft | Technology Enhanced Learning Research & Applications | Scoop.it
Okay, so this is something that I watch candidates go through, and also something I discovered when I started to give feedback as a supervisor myself. Your supervisor is probably not actually that good at giving written feedback on drafts. Speaking for myself, a lot of feedback annotations are just my notes to myself about what…
Fiona Harvey's insight:
Useful to find a rational voice regarding the feedback and advice on drafts. Seems dry sensible (and reassuring)

Think this is a great article - highlighting a disconnect between what we need and what we want to have. HE Is slow to respond which doesn't help change anything. Worth taking a look at.
